3'' Freud's solution to the problem, which called for the attempt to maintain cohesion and civilized behavior in society on purely secular and rational grounds, is undoubtedly sociologically as well as psychoanalytically naive. Nevertheless, there was some method in his madness, one that had a peculiarly Weberian flavor to it. Aside from the "true believers" and the great masses, Freud isolated a third group in society that consisted of the cultured elite.
